Introducing our new Music Director
Dear friends in Christ,
I am absolutely delighted to share that after a competitive search process with many accomplished applicants, I have hired our new Music Director! Dr. Jamie Apgar will be coming to lead us, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome him to Church of the Resurrection.
Jamie is currently serving as the music director at Episcopal Parish of the Good Shepherd near Boston, Massachusetts. He and his wife Melanie are looking forward to returning to the Bay Area, which is a homecoming of sorts for them — Jamie completed his PhD at UC Berkeley in Music, History and Literature. While he was there, he also taught at the Episcopal seminary, Church Divinity School of the Pacific. In addition, during this time Jamie was the music director at All Souls Parish… while I was the associate rector there! As such, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Jamie for years, and Rev. Whitney also got to share in this joy when she worked there after I left. Because of this, I can say with confidence that Jamie is going to be an amazing addition to our community. He is an incredible pianist and organist, an excellent teacher, and has a gorgeous tenor singing voice. He also excels with some of the less traditional parts of church music that many love here — he plays the shruti box, he leads paperless music, he’s happy leading a wide range of different kinds of music… he even taught himself to play the washtub bass while at All Souls, to support the bluegrass band there.
Jamie will be joining us in early January, and I look forward to celebrating his arrival with you then!
In gratitude,
Liz+
