Meeting the Community’s Needs

One of the quiet, behind-the-scenes ways this church is able to help people going through hard times is by offering financial assistance through our Clergy’s Discretionary Fund. It is funded in part through our annual operating budget, but the majority comes from gifts from parishioners, often given in thanksgiving or in memory of a loved one. We have noticed over the years that the support we offer from this fund is a kind of barometer for the economy, and what we are seeing right now matches the news: many folks are struggling. We are so grateful to be able to support people — both members of the church and neighbors in the wider community — in this way. Sometimes it’s help with gas, other times groceries, and sometimes with rent or unexpected medical expenses. Whatever the need, we feel fortunate to be able to help people. We want to make sure you know that this exists, for two reasons. First, if you ever find yourself in a tough spot, please let your clergy know — the church is here to help. And second, if you find that you have a little more financial margin these days, we invite you to contribute to this fund so that we can continue to support those who are struggling to get by. The need is great these days, and we are grateful to be a place where mutual support is alive and well. If you would like to contribute, just put “discretionary fund” in the memo of your check, or in the note on PayPal

Thank you for your trust and your generosity!

Love,

Rev. Liz
