Winter Nights Announcement
| With sadness and much gratitude, the Winter Nights Board of Directors recently announced that they made the difficult decision not to open the rotating family shelter this year and to close the 501c3. They shared that the nonprofit has become increasingly unsustainable in recent years, in both finances and structure, and felt it would not be responsible to open this year. They were clear to share that there was no malfeasance or any inappropriate actions, simply that it was no longer working. They are currently exploring the possibility of transferring the programs to another local nonprofit, as well as other possible ways of continuing to support vulnerable families in our community. Here is a related note from your Service to Others leaders: |
| Dear Church Family, As many of you have already heard, Winter Nights is not going to exist in its current form. The reasons are simple; the model isn’t sustainable anymore. Some of the issue is structural within the organization and some of it is that the need for family placement isn’t as great. Contra Costa County is busy housing families using Proposition 1 funds. All of this to say thank you. The Service to Others group would like to say Thank You. We have been serving Winter Nights since 2004 in a most welcoming manner, clearly remembering Jesus made good wine. Every meal was homemade including the desserts. We held facial nights and gave haircuts. There are so many ways that we have lived and continue to live into the gospel. We are not done serving. As families are being placed the need is still great. We are finding ways to serve further up stream. There are household needs and educational gaps for children who have missed milestones while unhoused that we can help meet. Again, thank you for making Church of the Resurrection a place where Christ’s love can be seen with clarity. |
