From our Rector

Dear ones,

Quite often, I hear newcomers say, “I walked through the doors here and felt like I’d come home.” From folks who have been around our church longer, I hear how Resurrection doesn’t just feel like home, it is their home.

The joy of sharing a church that is our home and our family happens only because we all join in making it possible. During our annual stewardship campaign this fall, we’re focusing on the ways that Jesus calls us to belong, engage, and hope — so that together we can live out God’s love in the world.

When people show up here, they share that they feel seen, welcomed, included, and safe. We find and create family here, family that transcends everything we’re told should separate us. At Church of the Resurrection, we can experience a deep sense of belonging to each other and to God.

And thanks be to God, belonging isn’t static. Our sense of belonging propels us into growth and service, into creativity and connection. This belonging leads us to the heart of all God dreams for the world. In classes and small groups, we have companions with whom we can wrestle big questions and doubts. Through community, we have teammates in faith helping us steward our energy into worthy causes, addressing the world’s pain in tangible ways. As a church, we refuse apathy. Instead, we get our hands dirty, our minds churning, and our hearts set on fire. We dig in, and it matters. Together, we engage.

With God’s help, this belonging and engagement create a beautiful thing: hope. When I read the headlines, it seems to be in short supply. But when I am with you all, my soul is restored and hope returns. We sing, and the beauty expands to fill the tall, curving ceiling. You step into the center of our community with thanksgivings and tender prayers, and you hold one another up. We practice living together in love, even with the many differences among us. When we struggle, we struggle together, pondering and collaborating and dreaming until we find the way forward.

I am grateful for all the ways you make our church home a place to belong, engage and hope. The wonder of this church is possible because you love each other well and share the gifts that you have been given.
