A New Way of Sharing Communion:
We are trying a new way to share communion together. For a while now, we have been offering a third non-alcoholic chalice that you could walk to by the lectern if you wished. At times, this can feel difficult depending where you are standing around the altar to try and make your way over to this extra chalice. Other times, it could feel inhospitable, as if this chalice is less than the chalices of wine that are passed in the circle. And neither of these circumstances feel welcoming or part of sharing communion as a community around the altar table.
Therefore, we want to try a new way. The non-alcoholic chalice will be inside the circle - right in front of the altar. If you wish to receive this chalice, just indicate to the clergy person who shares the bread with you. They will have the chalice bearer bring the ceramic chalice to you so you don't need to leave the circle to search for it.
We hope to try this for a while and will see if we need to do more tweaking in the future. And please let Rev. Liz or Rev. Whitney know if you have any suggestions.
