Post-Election Prayer Service
Beloved in Christ,
Today is a hard day: no matter who you voted for, it remains abundantly clear that we are a deeply divided nation. Some folks are celebrating today, and some are weeping. However you find yourself, I hope you remember that you are loved, by this community and by God. And, wherever we all land politically, I hope that we will also all recommit ourselves to the Gospel work of striving for peace and justice, and respecting the dignity of every human being. As we begin to imagine what it may look like to live this out, I urge you to take a few minutes to read this letter from our new Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe.
I understand that some folks are especially feeling the need to come together as a church in the wake of the election. To that end, we'll be offering a simple prayer service tonight, November 6th, at 7pm in the sanctuary. Come and pray: for ourselves, for our community, for those who are vulnerable, and for our nation and leaders. Come and sing, come and light candles, come and remember that whatever happens, we are in this together.
This feels like a good time to remember again the promise we made on Sunday to sweet baby Cassien in his baptism, that we will do all in our power to support him in his life in Christ. The reality is that we make this promise to each other, as well, and to the whole Body of Christ. Today is a good day to remind ourselves of this truth, and reach to offer one another this grace as best we can.
Sending love,
Liz+
